Volunteer Church Meals:

Every Tuesday and Friday since 1969, a small group of cooks, drivers and helpers have gathered in our church to prepare and deliver a hot, nutritious noon meal to elderly, handicapped and needy people in our community.  In addition to people from our own congregation there are groups from: our local American Legion, Tyrone Food Bank, and Wesley United Methodist Church who assist us with this ministry.  There are about 50 area residents who receive these twice-weekly meals.  This is our way of carrying out Christ’s call to feed the needy.

Shoe Closet:

Our “Shoe Closet” ministry provides “gently” worn (and sometimes new) shoes to anyone who needs them, at no cost.  We have shoes for men, women and children.  Seasonally appropriate shoes are displayed throughout the year.

Area churches, businesses, and individuals have joined us in this effort, with in-kind donations.  This is also an opportunity to “Go Green” by recycling shoes, boots, sneakers, etc., that people no longer use.  We welcome cash donations, which are usually used to purchase children’s shoes (which are always in demand).

We clean, deodorize, and disinfect all donated shoes so that they are ready for our guests.  The closet is open on the first Saturday of each month from 10 am till Noon.  At least two people from our congregation are present to greet and assist our guests who come to visit.  We have as many as 50 people who come to the closet during the two hour period it is open.  This is our way of responding to Christ’s call to clothe those in need.

Church Bazaar:

Our church bazaar is usually held in November.  There are often crafts and plants available.  As a part of our bazaar we have a “yard sale” room that is filled with donations from members and friends.  This room allows customers to purchase used items at a fair price.  All proceeds from this event go toward the Volunteer Church Meals ministry.

Sacrificial Offering:

On the second Sunday of each month we collect a special “Sacrificial” offering during our worship service.  The money from these offerings is used to support organizations such as: Tyrone Hospital Care Car, our local Shoe Closet ministry, Local Fire companies, Huntingdon Presbytery, Presbyterian Homes, Camp Krislund, Tyrone-Snyder Public Library, Blair County Senior Services, Food Bank, Blair County Family Services, Salvation Army, and our local Volunteer Church Meals program.

Operation Christmas Child:

In cooperation with Operation Christmas Child, each year members of our congregation gather “shoeboxes” to send beyond our doors.   This helps us to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world.  It is also a way that we work cooperatively with the worldwide church to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Lamb’s Wool Ministry:

We also participate in “Lamb’s Wool Ministry”, a related ministry to Operation Christmas Child.  People of the church knit the sweaters.   In the Fall they are shipped to a collection point.  The sweaters are then used to accompany some of the Operation Christmas Child “shoeboxes”.  This is a wonderful way to bring literal warmth to a child; along with the warmth of God’s love.
