New Pastor Search

We are pleased to tell our Church Family and larger community that our Session has voted to proceed with scheduling a “Candidating Service” for Pastor Ochuba on May 10, Mother’s Day, 10:30 AM.  The Pastoral Nominating Committee voted unanimously to bring Pastor Ochuba to Tyrone to speak with our congregation. The session is then calling for a Congregational Meeting, immediately following the worship service.  At that time the members of the congregation will be asked to vote on him and his terms of call (contract). The meeting will be moderated by Rev. Doug McGaffin, our moderator for the past 20+ years.  Votes will be taken on paper ballots.  While we encourage everyone to attend that service and to remain for the meeting, only actual members may be allowed to vote.  We understand that some folks will have to join us that day via zoom, but for those who are physically able, we strongly encourage you to attend the service in person.  If you are a member and must attend via zoom, you may vote using the one-on-one chat feature on zoom.  There simply is no more important service for our congregation than the one on May 10.  Please plan on attending.  

We will share this announcement electronically, in the church Window, and from the pulpit over the next two weeks.  On a personal note, your Pastoral Nominating Committee were all touched deeply by his faith and his words in our two days together several weeks ago.  He has since been interviewed by the Presbytery’s Committee on Ministry and our General Presbyter, Kate Sillman.  They were blown away by our candidate, as were we!  In their words, ” what a Pastoral, intelligent and engaging man!  We have no reservations about recommending him to COM and the Presbytery, for the call to Tyrone.”   Yes, we are excited for everyone to have a chance to meet him and to get to know him.  He does have a wife and four children, but we will have to meet them later.  

We recognize that not everyone may feel the same passion and enthusiasm for Pastor Ochuba and we ask that you vote from the heart. Either way, your presence is needed on May 10.

You will be happy to hear that we plan on having a church social that same day.
